Scott Beck is currently based in Sedona, AZ, and grew up with the Beatles and the extraordinary music that was created back in the `60's and `70's. Beginning on acoustic guitar, he learned some finger picking styles from listening to Peter, Paul and Mary songs, then later progressed to the electric guitar and became enamored with the "blues gods" of that era, learning their trademark licks through hours of playing along with all their classic albums.
His first band experience was during high school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, playing top-40 and rock and roll; then a band in Okinawa during his tour in the Navy, playing FM-staples by the Who, the Allman Brothers, and ZZ Top. He then played on and off for several years in the San Jose, CA band Ded Ringer, writing a large portion of the group's originals.
About that time, a plague swept the country, almost snuffing out the life¬blood of rock music ...a deadly virus called Disco. Groups disbanded, and musicians went into survival mode, disappearing into dark, seedy bars, homeless shelters, lounge acts, or IBM. Some even got married - and were never heard from again.
Beck laid low until 1994, when he realized he still had the desire to play and create soulful music - so he joined a classic rock band (SRO) that played great rock and soul from the `60's, `70's, and `80's, in and around the Sedona, Arizona area.
Beck soon moved beyond the desire to play cover tunes to re-discovering the magical sounds of the acoustic guitar and writing his own material again. This awakening was the beginning of a new course in his life's path, and along with this came another shift, as the words to his songs took on a deeper and more personal meaning.
He focused on writing for three years, then entered Virgin Sun Recording Studio in July 2003. His debut CD, released in December 2003, "Between Heaven And Earth," reflects some of the many styles and subject matter his repertoire consists of, including songs of spiritual growth, social causes, humor, romance, angels, and the challenges we all face in this rapidly changing world.
Beck followed that release with a second CD in 2007 - "I've Seen The Light" - again recorded with close friend/engineer/producer/keyboardist extraordinaire Boyd Sibley, who had returned to the Sedona area after a hiatus of several years. Now called Hope Universal Recording Studio (http://www.hopeuniversalrecordingstudio.com/), Sibley and Beck worked together to produce this CD of upbeat, inspirational songs, which has become his most successful to date.
Then in the spring of 2008, Beck recorded and produced his most mainstream CD titled "Singing You Home." This all-acoustic collection of his folk songs, fairy tales, romantic ballads and musings on life experiences are like paintings on the canvas of the minds of his listeners - both children and adults - as his guitar dances and weaves around the words and beautiful harmonies.
While his finger-picking style coaxes warm, melodic tones from his acoustic guitar and speaks softly to the listener's ear, it's the words of his songs along with his smooth and eloquent vocal delivery that captures the attention of his audience, sometimes spinning lighthearted tales and other times asking them to think about what is going on in their lives and the world around them.
A modern-day troubadour whose acoustic influences include Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan, Crosby-Stills-Nash & Young, Gordon Lightfoot, James Taylor, Jackson Browne, John Denver, Justin Hayward (Moody Blues), and too many others to mention, Beck writes and performs songs that truly connect with the audience on a heart and soul level, bringing them a sense of peace and comfort and a feeling that they're not alone in this world. He offers his songs to a world that is hungry for peace of mind and a return to a simpler way of life.
