One of God's Own Angels
(Scott Beck)
Driving home on the road alone, he didn’t know what he would say
To his friends and family – about losing his job that day
His boss had taken him aside and said, “We just can’t make ends meet”
“Sales are dropping and the work is stopping – a sign of the economy”
“But you’ve got one of God’s own angels, standing by your side
Waiting ever patiently – with arms open wide
To hold you close and comfort you, and catch the tears you cry
You’ve got one of God’s own angels – by your side”
Standing there with a bow in her hair, and her children dressed in black
Wondering how she could say those words
“Daddy’s gone – he’s not coming back”
Her momma said through her broken heart,
“Soon you’ll make a brand new start”
“But I know it’s hard to see the light – when everything’s so very dark”
“But you’ve got one of God’s own angels, standing by your side
Waiting ever patiently – with arms open wide
To hold you close and comfort you, and catch the tears you cry
You’ve got one of God’s own angels – by your side”
Oftentimes we cry out loud, “Why’s this happening to me?”
But there’s a gift in everything – to help us be all we can be
If only we could see
There’s a saying about death and taxes – another sure thing is change
And though you think you’re in control – nothing ever stays the same
If you’re not living from your heart – because of fear or pain
God might shake things up a bit – to put you back on track again
And you’ve got one of God’s own angels, standing by your side
Waiting ever patiently – with arms open wide
To hold you close and comfort you, and catch the tears you cry
(And heal the hurt inside …)
You’ve got one of God’s own angels …
You’ve got one of God’s own angels – by your side
By your side … oh yeah … one of God’s own angels
